WELCOME TO THE ARHOOLIE FOUNDATION
A nonprofit organization rooted in the life's work of its founder Chris Strachwitz and his acclaimed independent label Arhoolie Records. Our mission is to help keep blues, Cajun, zydeco, gospel, jazz, Tejano/Norteño, old-time, and other tradition-based styles of music alive and well through archival preservation, live performance, community and educational outreach, exhibits, public programming, and direct support to artists.
This momentous joining of two acclaimed musicians bridges generations, styles, and stories. At the intersection of tradition and innovation, both artists create something entirely new.
The Arhoolie Foundation will present its first annual Arhoolie Awards onstage at our Oct. 13 benefit concert featuring Taj Mahal and Fantastic Negrito. This award recognizes exceptional musicians, teachers, community organizations, documentarians, and individuals working creatively to help keep tradition-based styles of music alive and moving forward.
Dive deeper into our work at the archived arhoolie.org website. There you’ll find photo libraries, recorded interviews, poster galleries, and other treasures from the Arhoolie Foundation vault.
The Foundation gratefully accepts gifts, donations and grants from individuals, business firms and other foundations to help us expand our activities.
